US President Donald Trump today called on India and Pakistan to stop hostilities, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.

Trump's call comes amid the most serious military confrontation between the two nuclear powers in two decades.

"I know both sides very well and I want to see them understand each other. I want them to stop. And I hope they can stop now," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked about the clashes between the two neighboring countries.

He said he hoped India and Pakistan would stop the attacks they are carrying out, and stressed that if there was anything he could do to help, he would do it.

Yesterday, the US president reiterated that he hoped the clashes between India and Pakistan would stop very quickly.

At least 31 Pakistanis and 12 Indians were killed in today's attacks between India and Pakistan, AFP notes.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with his Indian and Pakistani counterparts yesterday evening, and according to the White House he called for dialogue and de-escalation in relations.

"The Secretary of State encourages India and Pakistan to reopen a channel for discussion between their leaders to calm the situation and avoid further escalation," said White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes.
