Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today that the leader of "Hamas" in Gaza, Mohammed Sinwar, one of the group's most wanted and the younger brother of the group's late leader Yahya Sinwar, has been eliminated, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

Mohammed Sinwar was elevated to the Palestinian militant group's top position last year after Israel killed his brother Yahya in combat during the ongoing Gaza war.

Yahya Sinwar led the October 2023 attack on Israel that sparked the war and was later named the group's supreme leader after Israel killed his predecessor Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.

One person was killed and 47 were wounded during the controversial humanitarian aid operation in the Gaza Strip, UN Human Rights Office spokeswoman Ravina told DPA. Shamdasani.

Shamdasani said there were reports that Israeli soldiers had opened fire during a humanitarian operation organized by the newly formed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Israeli media and witnesses reported chaotic scenes at the foundation's distribution center, which was stormed and looted.

The Israeli army said its soldiers had fired warning shots outside the center.

Shamdasani said the UN agency was trying to verify reports it had received from sources on the ground and to establish further details. She added that the number of injured had not been finalized and could change.
