Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said today that his country will continue to support the unity of the European Union regarding sanctions against Russia, as long as they do not threaten its national interests. However, if sanctions are proposed that pose a threat to Slovakia, the government reserves the right to reject them. This was reported by the TASR agency, reports Focus.

„If there are sanctions that do not threaten our interests, then we act in the spirit of EU unity. But at the same time, we say that if there are sanctions that could lead to a threat to the national interests of the Slovak Republic, we will veto them," Fico stressed.

His statement comes in response to criticism from the chairman of the coalition Slovak National Party, Andrej Danko, who expressed dissatisfaction with Slovakia's decision to support the 17th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
