The administration of US President Donald Trump is holding secret talks with representatives of major American universities to achieve concessions on issues of ideology and internal politics of universities, CNN reported, citing its sources.
According to the channel, representatives of several higher education institutions are discussing with White House adviser Mae Mailman possible steps that will help avoid the pressure that Harvard University is already facing. It is specified that Mailman and Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller are overseeing the administration's campaign to inspect colleges for insufficient fight against manifestations of anti-Semitism.
As CNN sources reported, the White House is conveying to university leaders the position that “funding cannot continue unchecked“ if universities “remain incubators of discrimination“.
According to the channel, dozens of colleges across the country have become the subject of federal inspections. Some of them have hired political consultants to develop a strategy for interaction with the administration. The White House, according to CNN sources, hopes to make a deal with one of the most famous universities to demonstrate a political victory in the fight for control of the higher education system.
