President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) for the successful operation "Spiderweb" on June 1, in which more than 11 Russian military aircraft were destroyed or damaged on the territory of enemy air bases. The head of state awarded participating officers and described the action as a "brilliant realization of our right to self-defense", the BBC reported, reports News.bg.
„Ukraine has never wanted war, but it has the full right to defend its independence and its people. That is exactly what we are doing - with all the means at our disposal," Zelensky said in an official statement.
He stressed that the operation was not only a military success, but also a moral victory: "The most important thing that Operation Cobweb proved is that war causes real damage and losses to the aggressor. This is the restoration of justice, this is a compulsion for real peace."
The operation was prepared for over a year and a half under the personal control of the president and implemented by the head of the SBU Vasyl Malyuk and a team of specialized officers. Its culmination was a coordinated strike with kamikaze drones launched from hidden mobile platforms mounted in trailers of heavy trucks that approached the Russian air bases.
