Russian President Vladimir Putin is probably trying to divert attention from Russia's war against Ukraine by offering to mediate in possible negotiations between Israel and Iran. This is stated in an analysis by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), quoted by UNIAN, reports BTA.

According to analysts, Putin is seeking to present Russia as an effective international partner of the United States, using the escalating conflict in the Middle East for this purpose. In this way, the Kremlin probably hopes to win the favor of US President Donald Trump.

ISW recalls that during a telephone conversation on June 14, Putin offered Trump mediation on behalf of Russia in possible negotiations between Israel and Iran. The information was confirmed by Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov.

According to Ushakov, the Russian president is "concerned by the escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel". In turn, Trump has called on Putin to end the war in Ukraine.
