US President Donald Trump's public approval rating has remained stable over the past month, according to an Ipsos survey, cited by "Reuters", BTA reports.

However, Americans are increasingly less supportive of his approach to immigration policy amid the harsh measures taken by his administration.

According to the survey, 42% of American adults approve of the way the Republican is carrying out his presidential duties - a result that remains unchanged from the previous survey from May 16-18. Trump's approval rating has been relatively stable since February, down only slightly from a 47% approval rating in January after he returned to the White House.

However, support for his approach to immigration has fallen to 44% from 47% in May. The president has vowed to deport millions of illegal immigrants and ordered massive workplace inspections, sparking mass protests. In Los Angeles, demonstrations have turned violent, including car burnings. In response, Trump has ordered the deployment of military forces to protect federal buildings and assist immigration authorities.

While many support the use of the military, 63% of respondents say they are seriously concerned about the problem of illegal immigration.

However, approval of the president's immigration policy is increasingly close to negative ratings in other areas. Forty-nine percent of respondents said they disapprove of his handling of the economy, five percentage points more than those who approve. Disapproval is up from 45% last month.

On the economy, 52% of respondents disapprove of Trump's policies, compared to 39% who approve. Americans also give him low marks for foreign policy.

The survey was conducted online among 4,258 U.S. adults.
