Iran has warned Washington that it will respond firmly if the United States directly involves itself in Israel's military campaign. This was stated by Iran's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, quoted by world agencies on Wednesday, BTA reported.
"We have conveyed a clear message to the American side: if they intervene directly, Iran's response will be serious and without hesitation", Bahreini told journalists in Geneva. He described the US as "an accomplice in Israel" because Washington provides logistical and military support to Tel Aviv, including by intercepting Iranian missiles aimed at Israeli territory.
The situation on the ground is escalating with each passing day. Israel has launched its largest-ever air operation against Iran, saying the Islamic Republic is on the verge of completing the development of nuclear weapons — a claim that Tehran categorically denies.
The Bahraini assured that Iran will show "no hesitation" in the defense of its territory and people:
"We will defend our security and people resolutely and without hesitation", the diplomat stressed.
Meanwhile, Iranian and Israeli forces continued their missile strikes on Wednesday night. The Israeli army reported that it was subjected to two consecutive missile attacks by Iran in the early hours of the day, with explosions heard over Tel Aviv. For its part, according to Iranian media, thousands of residents of Tehran and other major cities have left their homes in an attempt to escape the escalation.
