NATO discusses defense spending increase at summit in Netherlands

Allies are expected to agree to allocate 5% of GDP for defense and confirm their support for Ukraine

The Netherlands is hosting the two-day NATO summit, which is taking place in The Hague. More than 40 heads of state and government are participating in the forum, and the event is being covered by about 2,000 journalists from around the world, Nova reports.

Bulgaria is represented by a delegation led by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov. The main topics of the meeting include discussing a plan to increase military spending by member states - with the goal of them allocating at least 5% of their gross domestic product to defense. Participants are also expected to focus on increasing military production and continuing support for Ukraine in the context of the ongoing conflict.
