Falling tree kills woman after storm near Milan

The victim was returning from a walk with two other people who were injured and hospitalized

A 63-year-old woman died when a tree fell near the city of Milan in northern Italy after a strong storm in the area, Reuters reported, quoted by dariknews.bg, citing the local fire department.

This happened in the town of Robecetto con Induno, west of Milan. The woman was returning from a walk with two other people who were injured and hospitalized.

So far, firefighters have dealt with about 50 incidents and are working on 37 more reports. Most were related to dangerous trees, flooded basements and ground floors or advertising billboards knocked down by strong winds.

According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the heavy rains also affected the eastern region of Veneto, as well as parts of Tuscany, where fallen trees were also reported.

While storms raged in northern Italy, temperatures in much of the southern and central part of the country, including the capital Rome, remained close to 30 degrees Celsius.

A heatwave has gripped much of Europe at the start of summer. Authorities say at least eight deaths on the continent are linked to the heat.
