The European Commission announced new aid of 2.3 billion euros for Ukraine, designed to rebuild the country after the damage caused by the full-scale Russian invasion. The news was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during a conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, taking place in Rome, reports "Reuters"

The financial package includes 1.8 billion euros in the form of loan guarantees and 580 million euros in grants provided by international and bilateral financial institutions. This support is part of the Ukraine Investment Framework, which von der Leyen said has the potential to mobilise up to €10 billion in investment in the country.

The European Commission also announced the creation of a new equity fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction, which will be supported by the European Investment Bank and the governments of France, Germany, Italy and Poland. The fund’s initial capital is €220 million, with the aim of mobilising €500 million by 2026.

The announcement of the aid coincided with new massive Russian air strikes on Kiev, which Ukrainian authorities said killed two people. It is the second major attack on the capital in two days, as Ukraine seeks urgent support from its international partners to stabilise and rebuild the country.
