US Justice Department fires nine more Trump investigation staff

Fourteen prosecutors on Smith's team were fired on January 27 for working on cases against Trump

US Attorney General Pam Bondi fired nine more Justice Department staff on Monday who worked for special counsel Jack Smith, who was investigating Donald Trump for withholding classified documents and his efforts to seek a review of the 2020 election results, Reuters reported.

At least two of those fired are prosecutors who recently worked in prosecutors' offices in Florida and North Carolina, three sources told Reuters.

The remaining seven fired were support staff on Smith's team.

Since January, the Justice Department has been removing staff who worked on cases involving President Trump or his supporters.

Fourteen prosecutors who worked on Smith's team were fired on January 27 for working on cases against Trump.

Taking into account yesterday's dismissals, at least 26 people who worked on Smith's team have been fired since Trump took office on January 20, Reuters notes. In recent months, the Justice Department has also fired people who worked on the cases of defendants in the January 6, 2021, Capitol storming, BTA writes.
