Hurricane Daanas caused $85 million in damage (VIDEO)

The majority of the amount - $60 million USD, are the crop losses

The damage caused to Taiwan's agriculture by Typhoon "Danas", which hit the island earlier this week, is estimated at NT$2.5 billion (USD85.5 million).

According to the island's agricultural department, an analysis of field information showed that crop losses are estimated at NT$1.76 billion (USD60 million), and damage to private farms is over NT$400 million (USD13.6 million).

The total area of damaged farmland is 18,200 hectares. The greatest damage was suffered by banana, pomelo, orange and bamboo plantations.

„Danas“ hit southwestern Taiwan on the night of July 6 to 7, the typhoon brought torrential rains and winds reaching 40 m/s, with gusts up to 50 m/s. As a result, two people died and 334 were injured. Over 388 thousand households were left without electricity.

It was previously reported that in Taiwan, as a result of the impact of Typhoon „Danas“, two people died and over 500 were injured.
