The huge iceberg has split into two parts and is hanging over the village just a few meters from the fish factory and grocery store. The iceberg is more than 100 meters high, and experts estimate its weight at 11 million tons.
The iceberg was first spotted a week ago, after which the current carried it away, but earlier this week it returned to the village. Local authorities have declared a state of emergency, evacuated part of the village and are asking residents to be extremely careful. If the iceberg collapses or begins to disintegrate, powerful waves could cover the village.
This is not the first such incident. In 2018, another ice giant approached the village. People had to be evacuated then too, but there was no damage. Then the iceberg just sailed away.
