Preparations are underway for the rapid transfer of additional Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine, said NATO's top military commander Alexus Grinkevich, quoted by “Reuters“, reports News.bg.

Ukraine has been subjected to some of the heaviest Russian attacks since the beginning of the war.

“Preparations are underway and we are working closely with Germany on the transfer of the “Patriot“ systems,“ Grinkevich said at a conference in the German city of Wiesbaden. “I have received instructions to send them as soon as possible“.

On July 14, US President Donald Trump announced agreements within the framework of NATO, according to which European countries will purchase American weapons, mainly Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, and transfer them to Ukraine.

Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands have already expressed their readiness to participate in the scheme.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also named other members of the Alliance in Europe and North America as potential buyers: Finland, Norway, the United Kingdom and Canada.

However, France and Italy have announced that they will not participate in the initiative.

NATO plans to hold a meeting of countries that have Patriot systems that can be provided to Ukraine on July 23.
