US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would sign an executive order before next year's midterm elections against mail-in voting and voting machines nationwide, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

"I will lead a movement to eliminate mail-in voting, as well as the extremely inaccurate, expensive and highly questionable voting machines", Trump wrote on his social network "Truth Social".

He made this statement without providing evidence to support his claims, Reuters notes.

"We will make these efforts, which the Democrats will strongly resist because they are cheating on levels never seen before, by signing an executive order, "through which I will bring integrity to the 2026 elections," the US president added.

The Republican signed an executive order on March 25 of this year that targeted elections that had been blocked by courts based on lawsuits filed by Democratic-run states.

Each of the 50 US states organizes elections according to its own rules, but Trump warned them to comply with his executive order.

"Remember, the states are simply agents of the federal government in counting votes. They should do what the federal government, represented by the President of the United States, tells them to do, for the good of our country," Trump wrote.

The US president met with Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, noting that his Russian counterpart agreed with his proposal to eliminate mail-in voting, Reuters recalls.

Trump, who falsely claimed that he, not Joe Biden, won the 2020 presidential election, has long pushed his Republican Party to do more to reform the US electoral system.

Trump himself has voted by mail in previous elections, and before his presidential election last year, he urged his supporters to cast their votes this way, Reuters notes.
