EU: Russia does not want peace, Ukraine needs stronger support

Kaia Kallas: Chinese support for Moscow is a challenge to the world order

Obviously, Russia shows no desire to end the war in Ukraine and the European Union must provide additional military, economic and diplomatic support to Kiev. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas at a press conference after the first meeting of the European Commissioners after the summer vacation, BTA reports.

According to her, even in the event of a ceasefire, the best guarantee for Ukraine's security will be strong armed forces. “That is why we support Kiev's forces with training and equipment“, Kallas emphasized.

She added that she sees Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing alongside the leaders of Russia, Iran and North Korea - “a direct challenge to the rules-based world system“. According to Kallas, the war in Ukraine has Chinese support, and authoritarian alliances are “looking for a shortcut to a new world order“.

Against this backdrop, the High Representative indicated that the countries of the Coalition of Those Willing to Provide Security Support to Ukraine will hold online talks today.
