The opposition groups of the Left and "Patriots for Europe" in the European Parliament confirmed today that they are preparing new votes of no confidence against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, BTA reports.

Speakers for both groups specified that it has not yet been decided when the votes will take place, if the necessary preliminary support is achieved.

Speakers for the groups from the ruling majority Socialists and Democrats, "Renew Europe" and the Greens did not express support for a possible second vote of no confidence. They pointed out that decisions on the matter had not yet been discussed, but warned against abuse of procedures.

Von der Leyen survived the first vote of no confidence on July 10 this year, submitted by a Romanian MEP from the European Conservatives and Reformists group. At that time, she said in the debate that the petitioners were relying on support from "her enemies and are puppets of Russia or someone else". The first vote was related to the case of missing text messages between the commission president and a Pfizer representative regarding the supply of over a billion doses of vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
