The Chinese joint venture between Audi and SAIC is continuing its offensive in the electric segment. After recently presenting the impressive AUDI E5 Sportback with a futuristic design, the alliance is now testing its next new product - a powerful electric crossover.

A prototype of the yet-unnamed model was spotted during road tests, covered in thick camouflage. Visually, the crossover retains the design line of the E5 Sportback, although it looks larger and taller, which is typical for the segment. The front end features matte headlights, the contours and connecting strip of which are almost identical to those of the E5 Sportback, suggesting a unified design identity. The body lines are smooth, emphasized by a wide hood, high window line and a massive spoiler at the rear.

Technologies and platforms

The crossover is equipped with the latest technologies for autonomous driving and connectivity:

A LiDAR sensor is mounted on the roof – a key component for advanced driver assistance systems.

Cameras replace traditional side mirrors, improving aerodynamics.

Retractable door handles also contribute to better aerodynamics.

The rear lights are designed as a single strip that extends across the entire width of the car.

Although the interior of the prototype remains hidden from spies, the technical details are particularly interesting.

According to sources, Audi's new electric crossover is built on the same 800-volt platform used by the E5 Sportback. This architecture is key, as it supports ultra-fast charging and efficient energy management – advantages that are essential for the premium segment.

The powertrain will be similar to that of the sportback model, which means that the crossover will be available in versions with one or two electric motors and with power ranging from 295 hp to an impressive 776 hp in the top version.

The range will be provided by two battery options with different capacities – 76 kWh or 100 kWh, suggesting competitive range values.

The new electric crossover is expected to go on sale in the Chinese market next year, reinforcing Audi's commitment to being a leader in electric mobility in Asia.
