Dacia CEO Denis Le Vauth has made it clear that the current Sandero could soon be offered with a hybrid drivetrain. Interestingly, this "operation" could happen extremely painlessly, because the new hybrid powertrain can simply be taken off-the-shelf from the seven-seater Dacia Jogger. Given that the two cars are extremely closely related, the implant is relatively easy.

"The Jogger, from the front of the car to the B-pillar, is absolutely identical to the Sandero. With the Jogger, we are only investing in the rear of the car" - Le Vauth insists. "In terms of investment, it won't be big and we can actually do another semi-car in some way."

When we asked Le Vot if this meant the current-generation Sandero could get the Jogger's Hybrid 140 configuration, the Dacia boss said: "Yes, it will." He didn't say when we might see the electrified powertrain in the Sandero, but with an all-new supermini in the pipeline for 2027, a launch later this year seems likely.

The Sandero is currently only available with three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, plus a Bi-Fuel LPG option; fitting the Sandero's hybrid powertrain (HEV) would make it the only four-cylinder model in the range.
