Last year was a mixed one for German automaker Porsche. Despite an overall sales decline of 3%, some models showed unexpected results. In particular, the electric car Taycan faced serious difficulties, while traditional gasoline models such as the Cayenne and 911 showed sales growth.

Statistics show that Taycan sales in 2024 fell by almost 50%. The company attributes this to several factors: a model update that temporarily reduced demand, and slower-than-expected growth in the electric car market as a whole.

Interestingly, in parallel with the decline in Taycan sales, its electric brother Macan, which was only launched at the end of the year, is showing good results. However, it still has a long way to go to fully occupy the niche of its gasoline predecessor.

At the same time, Porsche's gasoline models continue to enjoy popularity. The Cayenne, the company's best-selling car, shows an 18% increase in sales. Such success is explained by the successful restyling of the model in 2023. The 911 also showed positive dynamics, increasing sales by 2%.

Despite the decline in sales in China, Porsche managed to maintain positive dynamics in other regions. However, the company admits that the transition to electric mobility is happening more slowly than expected. In this regard, Porsche is considering the possibility of installing gasoline engines in some models that were originally planned as fully electric.

Thus, Porsche's sales results in 2024 show a contradictory picture. On the one hand, the company is facing difficulties in the electric car market. On the other hand, traditional gasoline models continue to be in demand. This shows that the transition to electric mobility is not happening as quickly as expected, and that buyers still value traditional internal combustion engines.
