Alfa Romeo has teased the next-generation Stelvio, a significant update to the original SUV as it approaches its ninth year. Prototypes sporting the brand's badge and the Milan emblem have been undergoing cold-weather testing in Sweden.
The new Stelvio marks a significant platform change, moving from the Giorgio platform to Stellantis' STLA Large, shared with the new Dodge Charger, which supports both internal combustion and electric powertrains. The lack of visible exhaust tips and the high-voltage sticker suggest that this prototype is an electric vehicle.
Visually, the new Stelvio is noticeably larger. The STLA Large platform is designed for cars with a length of 4764 to 5126 mm, which is a significant increase over the 4687 mm of the current Stelvio. This increased length is visible in the longer wheelbase and overall profile of the prototype. Other design changes include flush door handles, a steeper-sloping rear window and a split headlight design, typical of many cars from 2025. A wide LED light strip is visible through the camouflage. At the rear, the roof spoiler seems to extend downwards, framing the rear window, and thin triangular taillights are expected.
Even the wheels are covered in camouflage, suggesting a potential modern interpretation of Alfa Romeo's iconic Teledial design. For those expecting the Giulia sedan, it is expected to break away from traditional sedan norms, potentially adopting a higher body height, although not to the same extent as the Stelvio.
Alfa Romeo will officially unveil the all-new Stelvio later this year, with sales expected to begin in 2026, coinciding with the launch of the next-generation Giulia.
