Trump expects favorable trade deal - 1

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expects to conclude a final trade agreement between the UK and the US during the visit of US President Donald Trump to the Island, reports the newspaper The Washington Post (WP).

According to him, Trump can count on a warm welcome, as Starmer's government is trying to use his visit to conclude a favorable trade agreement with the US, since the North American country accounts for 18% of total British trade. In particular, the WP indicates that the route of the American leader will be planned in such a way as to avoid Trump's motorcade passing by planned demonstrations protesting his arrival. The publication recalled that in May, Washington agreed to reduce tariffs on products in the UK's automotive and aerospace sectors, but no final agreement was reached on other sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, steel and aluminum.

Trump and Starmer may also sign an agreement on a technology partnership and major investments in nuclear energy, which will allow the countries to “expand their cooperation in the field of defense technologies“.

As previously reported by the White House, Trump will make a second state visit to the United Kingdom from September 16 to 18. The US president is expected to be received by King Charles III at Windsor Castle.

Trump made his first state visit to the United Kingdom in 2019 during his first presidential term. He was then received by Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) as part of a three-day visit. In modern history, Britain has never hosted a second state visit for a foreign political figure.
