Bulgaria ranks fourth in the European Union in terms of growth in new car registrations in August 2025, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). Our country reports an increase of 25.9% compared to the same month last year, surpassing the EU average growth of 5.3%.

The Bulgarian market is accelerating

According to statistics, 3,684 new cars were registered in our country, which is the fourth consecutive month of stable growth. In July, the increase was 20.5%, and in August the trend intensified. Only Lithuania (+52.4%), Romania (+51.7%) and Latvia (+39.2%) reported a larger jump.

What cars do Bulgarians buy

Gasoline cars continue to dominate the market – they formed 81.6% of all new registrations in August. Diesel cars are in second place (7.8%), followed by electric cars (5%), hybrid models (4%) and plug-in hybrids (1.6%).

Europe is betting more on hybrids and electric cars

A total of 677,786 new cars were registered in the EU in August. The share of hybrids is the largest (33.9%), ahead of petrol (26.3%) and electric (17.8%). Plug-in hybrids make up 10.4%, and diesel models - only 8.8%. This highlights the trend of gradual abandonment of traditional engines in favor of electrified technologies.

Bulgaria in the lead for the first eight months

From January to August 2025, over 7.16 million new cars were registered in the EU, which represents a minimal decrease of 0.1% compared to 2024. For the same period, Bulgaria is again among the leaders with an annual growth of 8.5%, alongside Lithuania (+40.8%), Latvia (+34.1%), Spain (+14.6%) and Austria (+10.7%).
