"I often say that my main mission is to ensure security, strengthen the sovereignty and independence of Kazakhstan and lay a solid foundation for the sustainable socio-economic development of the country in these turbulent times. And all my decisions are dictated by these urgent tasks. Digitalization and the introduction of artificial intelligence are a fundamental, long-term process. Its side effects and impact on the global economy have not yet been studied and clarified. But this new technological trend will determine the future of all peoples and states. There are no established models in this area, so we must act decisively and not be afraid to make the boldest decisions. Only in this way can we fulfill the historical mission entrusted to us – to take our rightful place in the emerging new world order," the head of state believes.
As the president noted, international cooperation plays a vital role in strengthening the scientific and technological potential of the nuclear industry.
"We already have good results in this regard. Effective partnerships have been established with the IAEA, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia, the World Nuclear University in the USA, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland and other well-known research centers. Our scientists participate in global research projects in the field of thermonuclear fusion, nuclear materials science and radiation technologies. Participation in such important international initiatives not only demonstrates the great potential of our nuclear science, but also facilitates investments and the transfer of unique technologies and competencies. The government should strengthen international partnerships in nuclear science. It is also important to explore the possibilities of Kazakhstan's participation in multilateral research projects. The Atomic Energy Agency will develop a long-term scientific and technical program for the development of nuclear science with clearly defined funding mechanisms, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
Tokayev said that science and technology are strategically important for all countries, noting that investments in education and science have increased fivefold over the past 5 years. The head of state called the country's energy security and independence a strategic goal. The president said that nuclear energy will become a full-fledged sector of the national economy and ordered the development of a detailed plan for a science city in Kurchatov.
