„Lukoil-Moldova“ temporarily transfers the oil terminal at Chisinau International Airport to the airport administration to ensure uninterrupted supplies of aviation kerosene following the imposition of US sanctions.

„The airport's aviation fuel storage terminal is a strategic asset for the state, so it is crucial that kerosene supplies for the aviation sector are uninterrupted. To this end, a working group established to address fuel supply issues, jointly with the State Enterprise „Chisinau International Airport“, developed and implemented a management plan to avoid interruptions in fuel supplies. On November 12, 2025, a free-use agreement was signed with Lukoil for the transfer of the airport's assets under management“, announced Moldovan Energy Minister Dorin Giungietu on Facebook. He specified that the agreement allows for free use of the terminal until the airport carries out the final purchase of assets and infrastructure.

Earlier, Giungietu said that Lukoil, due to the republic's compliance with US sanctions, will be forced to cease its activities in the country from November 21, which means that it will stop supplying and maintaining the country with gasoline, diesel fuel and kerosene. According to the minister, the republic's authorities are negotiating with suppliers from Bulgaria and Romania, including Rompetrol, to secure the necessary volumes of fuel. Giungietu also noted that the government plans to purchase fuel from Lukoil's warehouses at Chisinau airport to ensure its uninterrupted operation. He stressed that the Council of Ministers had rejected Lukoil's proposal to sell its airport assets to another company “based on the criteria for national security“.

According to the Moldovan government, the Russian company owns approximately 110 of the 570 operating gas stations in Moldova. Its subsidiary, Lukoil-Moldova, is an importer and wholesaler of petroleum products, and the company also owns private infrastructure at Chisinau airport.

Earlier, the US Treasury Department included oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft, as well as 34 subsidiaries of these companies, in a new package of US sanctions. According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, the new sanctions against Russian companies will not pose any problems for the Russian Federation, which has developed a strong immunity to such restrictions.
