One of 288 bottles of the oldest whiskey The Reach, of the Scottish brand The Macallan, was bought by a local collector for the sum of BGN 265,000. For the first time in Bulgaria, whiskey enthusiasts and connoisseurs got access to such a limited edition of the brand.
„The Reach is the ultimate testament to The Macallan's commitment to excellence, which is reflected in both the 81-year-old precious liquid and the exceptional, one-of-a-kind decanter and sculpture that holds it" , said Anna Metaxas, regional brand ambassador for Eastern Europe and Greece.
Rare 81-year-old single malt whiskey The Reach is the oldest whiskey ever produced by the company, made from a single oak sherry cask. The dark drink is encased in an exquisite decanter made of blown hot glass and placed on a bronze sculpture of three hands. Each hand represents characters from the company's history and their unique story. One of them is in memory of the workers of the distillery since 1940, who contributed to the creation of the unique whiskey in difficult times, more than eight decades ago. The other hand is that of former chairman Alan Shiach, whose grandfather was at the helm of the company when the whiskey was put into the cask. The third is of today's master whiskey maker, Kirstin Campbell, who carefully selected the 1940 cask used to create The Reach, and who made the decision that now was the time to share this whiskey with the world.
In recent years, the more affluent Bulgarians have invested in limited series whiskey. They look to the premium beverage as a place to invest, along with gold and real estate. The older a whiskey is, the more expensive it is.
