The all-time record for electricity consumption from three years ago is expected to be bettered next Thursday evening when the heat will cause grid load to exceed 5300 megawatts.
This is according to the forecasts of the Electricity System Operator. From there, they told Horizon that our power system is working normally and has enough capacity to meet the increased power consumption as a result of the extremely high temperatures.
Regardless of the fact that temperatures have started to rise quite a bit since the end of June, so far the loads in the power transmission system are moving from 4600 to 4800 megawatts.
Peak consumption of electricity is in the evening hours - around 19-20 hours. It was then, on July 11, that the highest loads from the beginning of the hot period until now were reached - of over 4,900 MW.
However, the absolute record of 5123 MW, which was registered on July 29, 2021, was not reached in the past days.
According to the forecasts of the Electricity System Operator, this could happen next week, at 20:00 on July 18th, when it is expected to be improved by about 200 megawatts.
Since the beginning of the year, electricity consumption has reached nearly 19 million megawatt hours, which is about 2% less than consumption for the same period last year, the Electricity System Operator said.
