Swiss authorities added 27 Belarusian citizens to the sanctions list, including security officials, judges and journalists, according to a document published on the website of the State Secretariat of the Economy of the country.
Restrictive measures were introduced against the general director of the BelTA news agency Irina Akulovich, the head of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus Andrey Ananenko and his two deputies, as well as other employees of law enforcement, corrections officers and judges. The sanctions include a ban on travel to Switzerland, banking services in the country and freezing of assets, if any.
On August 5, the European Union introduced sanctions against 28 citizens of Belarus. A total of 261 people and 37 organizations are included in the EU sanctions list for Belarus. If their assets are found in the EU, they are subject to freezing and the individuals are banned from entering the EU.
Switzerland joined the EU sanctions in March 2022, the restrictions it introduced also entail a number of export bans, indicating that the motive is "participation" Belarus in a special military operation conducted by Russia in Ukraine.
