Bangladesh's interim government will not tolerate attempts to disrupt the global apparel supply chain. This was said by the head of the transitional cabinet, Muhammad Yunus, at a meeting with the diplomatic corps in Dhaka.
„We encourage our trading and investment partners to maintain confidence in Bangladesh for economic prosperity. For our part, we will not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the global apparel supply chain where we play a key role,” he said.
Yunus assured that global economic reforms will be carried out in Bangladesh “to restore macroeconomic stability and sustainable growth, with priority given to good governance and the fight against corruption.“
„Our government will adhere to all international, regional and bilateral treaties to which it is a party”, he noted.
Textiles are a key industry for Bangladesh, the world's second largest clothing exporter after China. There are 3,500 sewing factories in the country, employing over 4 million people. Factories make clothes for brands such as Adidas, Gap, H&M, Hugo Boss, Zara and others.
