For the last month, 236,000 Bulgarians visited Turkey. There is a significant increase in trips to our southern neighbor. This was noted by Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Sait Uyanak during a reception on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.
Trade between Bulgaria and Turkey has reached approximately USD 7 billion, with the goal of increasing it to USD 10 billion. Turkish business in Bulgaria has invested EUR 2.5 billion, creating over 15,000 jobs. Ambassador Uyanak recognized the importance of Bulgaria's ongoing efforts to modernize border crossings to facilitate safe and efficient trade routes between Europe and Turkey.
The ambassador highlighted the close ties between the two countries, noting that their shared history, cultural heritage and geographical proximity have fostered a stable partnership. “Our friendly relations with Bulgaria have always been of great importance to us, not only as neighboring countries, but also as two nations enriched by a common cultural heritage. These mutual values strengthen our ties and deepen our cooperation with each passing day, he noted.
Ambassador Uyanak did not fail to note the historical ties, as Bulgaria is one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of Turkey, formalized through the Friendship Treaty of 1925. Next year will mark the centenary of this agreement.
