Canada will respond to the US for imposing tariffs on Canadian goods on a dollar for dollar basis. "As I said, all options are on the table. On the issue of tariffs, I support the principle of "dollar for dollar", Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters. Ottawa "absolutely" will consider this option.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trudeau said that the US would have to buy resources from Russia, China and Venezuela if President Donald Trump decides to impose 25% tariffs on all Canadian goods.
The US, Mexico and Canada are bound by a trilateral agreement that includes the creation of a free trade area between these countries. On November 25, Trump announced that on his first day as president, he would impose a 25% tariff on all goods from Canada and Mexico in response to illegal immigration and drug smuggling. However, on January 20, Trump clarified that he intended to implement the tariffs on February 1.
