"Bulgarian Posts" will exchange levs for euros in 2203 stations in the country, including in the most remote settlements without bank branches. We are prepared to start from January 1, 2026, and the first six months the service will be free – this was stated by the executive director of "Bulgarian Posts" Tsvetelina Stoilkova in the studio of "The Day Begins on Saturday".
Repair and relocation of branches
In the Plovdiv village of Katunitsa, where the post office has a broken roof, a solution is being sought for relocation or repair.
"We talked with colleagues from Plovdiv and with the mayor of the village. We have his approval for the post office to move to the municipal building. We are also expecting official confirmation from the mayor of the municipality. If this does not happen, we will look for repair options, because in small settlements there are almost no alternatives", commented Stoilkova.
She emphasized that people's safety is a priority:
"The important thing is that residents do not wait in line with the risk of the roof falling on their heads."
How will the exchange work?
The exchange will be carried out in settlements without banks, such as:
- amounts up to 1,000 BGN – instant exchange;
- amounts over 1,000 BGN – with a request, execution in 3-5 business days;
- 954 stations will accept requests for exchange up to 10,000 leva.
"Our employees are experienced and well-known in small towns. We will equip them with banknote and coin counting machines to serve people quickly and efficiently", explained Tsvetelina Stoilkova.
Security and fraud protection
According to her, a key measure is the overall security of the process:
"We will have high-resolution video surveillance, alarm and security systems, counterfeit banknote detectors. We work with private security companies and the Ministry of Interior to ensure people's peace of mind."
Stoilkova warned citizens not to trust random people:
– Our main advice is simple - exchange money only at post offices. This is a safe place, the money comes from the servicing bank, not from dubious sources. There is no risk of receiving counterfeit banknotes."
She added that for the villages, we are also working with the deputy mayors:
"We will hold meetings with the population to explain how to protect themselves from fraud. In addition, we will distribute leaflets, brochures and posters with important information."
Delivery of funds and logistics
"The banknotes will be loaded by our servicing bank, which works with the Bulgarian National Bank. "The loading and return of funds will be carried out along certain routes, with a security collection company," Stoilkova specified.
