The National Mining Company of Kazakhstan Tau-Ken Samruk, together with the American investment company Cove Capital, will conduct geological exploration work to search for rare earth metals at the Akbulak site in the Kostanay region during the current field season, the press service of the joint-stock company „Samruk-Kazyna“ reported.

„The cooperation between JSC „Samruk-Kazyna“ and the American investment company Cove Capital is carried out within the framework of a strategic partnership aimed at developing promising areas. Subsidiaries of the fund, in particular the national mining company “Tau-Ken Samruk“, are involved in the implementation of key projects. One of these areas is the search and exploration of rare earth metal deposits, which are important for the world economy,”, the press service reported.

The companies plan to jointly conduct geological surveys at the “Akbulak“ site in the Kostanay region. According to preliminary data, the project has significant geological potential. Updated data will be presented after the completion of all surveys.

“Currently, the key priority is to conduct comprehensive preparatory activities, which include an analysis of available geological data, an assessment of the potential of the infrastructure, and the completion of organizational and legal formalities. These preliminary steps lay the foundation for further successful work. “Geological exploration work on the ground is expected to begin within the current field season“, explained Samruk-Kazina.

Earlier, the press service of the government of Kazakhstan reported that specialists are conducting geological exploration work this year to search for rare and rare-earth metals in 25 areas with a total area of 100,000 sq.m. In 2024, 38 promising areas of solid minerals were discovered in the republic. Currently, beryllium, tantalum, niobium, scandium, titanium, rhenium, osmium are mined in Kazakhstan, and bismuth, antimony, selenium and tellurium are being mined along the way.
