Kostadin Kostadinov attacks Ivaylo Mirchev with revelations about his parents - 1

The political tension between "Vazrazhdane" and the PP-DB coalition escalated into a sharp personal attack today, after the leader of the nationalist formation Kostadin Kostadinov published serious accusations against MP Ivaylo Mirchev. The reason for the scandal is the visit of the representatives of "Yes, Bulgaria" to the commemoration of the victims of the so-called. "Renaissance Process" at the Turkian fountain in the village of Mogilane.

Kostadinov accused Mirchev of hypocrisy, directing his attack not at the actions of the deputy himself, but at his father's professional biography in the years before 1989.

"Ivaylo Mirchev's father worked as a nomenklatura in the municipal council of the Bulgarian Communist Party in Krushari before 1989 - he headed the party propaganda activity in the municipality", Kostadinov wrote on social networks. He claims that Mirchev's family enjoyed the privileges of the regime, living in a "specially built luxury cooperative".

In his publication, the leader of "Vazrazhdane" makes a direct connection between the deputy's father and the forced change of names of Bulgarian Turks. Without presenting specific documents, Kostadinov refers to his personal knowledge of the Dobrudja region and claims that "it was precisely people like Mirchev's father who were tasked with the most responsible work in carrying out" the Revival Process.

The sharp reaction comes days after Ivaylo Mirchev and Bozhidar Bozhanov laid flowers at the monument to 17-month-old Türkyan - the youngest victim of the events of December 1984. This act was interpreted by analysts as an attempt by the democratic community to show empathy for the tragedy of the Bulgarian Turks, seizing the MRF's monopoly on this historical memory.

Kostadinov used the occasion to attribute collective guilt to his opponents, calling them "janissaries" and demanding an apology from Mirchev for his father's actions.

"Did Ivaylo Mirchev apologize on behalf of his father for his work during the trial? Or does this not concern him?", the leader of "Vazrazhdane" asks rhetorically.

The attack comes in the context of heightened pre-election rhetoric, where the topic of "children of the nomenclature" is often used as compromising material, although in countries governed by the rule of law, responsibility is always personal, not family. So far, Ivaylo Mirchev has not publicly commented on the new accusations, but in the past he has repeatedly stated that he is not responsible for the regime before 1989, when he was a child.
