Pollution with an oil product, most likely fuel oil, was detected along the strip in the northern part of the Varna beach Kabakum. The signal was reported to 112 by a resident of the area.
The incident was discussed at a meeting of the Headquarters for the implementation of the regional disaster protection plan in the Varna Regional Administration. Teams of the regional eco-inspection, "Basin Directorate", Varna Municipality and the regional administration have taken action to localize the pollution.
It was established that it is coastal and came from a hydrotechnical facility that discharges wastewater. There is no data on pollution of the sea water. The contaminated area is just over 200 square meters, and the amount of contaminated sand is between 4 and 20 cubic meters, which are yet to be cleaned. The possible polluter has also been identified - a hotel in the area.
According to the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Varna, a team of the Fifth Regional Directorate and inspectors from the "Economic Police" have carried out an on-site inspection and are working to clarify whether there is evidence of a crime. According to the Regional Plan for Combating Oil Spills, the organization and responsibility for eliminating the pollution lies with the mayor of Varna Municipality. Experts from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment, Water and Water - Varna have issued instructions to both the alleged polluter and the Municipality of Varna to carry out the cleanup.
