These will be elections between the status quo of stagnation, on the other hand - the populism of the new saviors, and on the third - the work that must be done in the public interest. This was stated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Slavov, former Minister of Justice and leader of the list of “We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria” in the 26th MIR Sofia-region.
“All elections are important, but these are especially important. These elections are a choice between the conquered state, which was overthrown by thousands of protests, and a European, legal, modern Bulgaria, which we all deserve as citizens,”, Slavov said in a debate on Nova TV.
According to him, achieving goals is not achieved with slogans, but through concrete battles, concrete decisions, defending positions, even coalitions, when they are necessary and in the public interest.
“These elections are whether Bulgaria will be at the center of Europe or will remain on the periphery, and this is despite the fact that we have achieved national priorities for years that we have always fought for, such as Schengen and the Eurozone,” he added. He recalled that the PP-DB is the successor to traditions that we call the democratic right, which contributed to Bulgaria from a backward socialist country being among the first.
Atanas Slavov emphasized the fact that the trust of Bulgarian citizens in institutions and justice must be restored. “It is necessary to change the laws and institutions so that everyone believes in the existence of one law for all, that we have equal rights and equal opportunities in a more open and freer society. This is the big bet - to move forward, to develop as a strong Bulgaria in a strong Europe and institutions that work for the benefit of citizens, and not for political-oligarchic lobbies”, he added.
According to him, Bulgarian citizens identify one of the main problems of the state as a lack of justice and corruption due to the unrealized changes in judicial laws, including the repealed texts of the changes to the Constitution. He recalled that in the previous parliament, the PP-DB submitted a number of bills to amend the Judiciary Act, the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code, but the majority did not even consider them.
“There can be no justice if the institutions do not work. Also if there is arbitrariness in the prosecution service and an illegitimate prosecutor general who claims to perform his functions contrary to the law. These are key issues for our society and we must respond legislatively so that we can deal with politics and not with forensic analysis during the elections”, he said.
