The partial vote for mayor of the capital's "Sredets" district will be held on June 14, according to the decree of the head of state, which officially schedules the election, BTA reports.

As early as April 22, the Central Election Commission adopted the chronogram for the holding of the partial local elections on this date, including for the "Sredets" district.

According to the approved schedule, the mayor of the relevant municipality or district must issue an order for the formation of polling stations no later than 35 days before election day – in this case by May 9.

The parties and coalitions that participated in the elections for municipal councilors and mayors on October 29, 2023, should submit applications to the CEC for participation in the partial vote by the same deadline.

By May 15, the CEC will determine by lot the ballot numbers of the admitted parties and coalitions and will announce them publicly. By May 20, the Municipal Election Commission must officially announce the candidates for mayor.

It is recalled that on February 20, the MEC prematurely terminated the mandate of Traycho Traykov as mayor of the “Sredets“ district, after he was elected as the acting Minister of Energy. The decision followed his statement, in which he indicated that he had been nominated for a member of the official cabinet and was about to take the oath before the National Assembly.

Traykov told BTA that he intended to participate in the by-elections as a candidate for mayor of the region.

Meanwhile, on February 26, the Sofia Municipal Council elected Alexander Petkov as interim mayor of “Sredets“. Until then, he had held the post of deputy mayor and received the support of 44 municipal councilors.
