“We begin our new path on May 1, when we announce a mobilization against labor exploitation. We invite all who recognize themselves in the centuries-old battle for labor rights to stand not just shoulder to shoulder with us, but together to show the authorities – political and capitalist, that there are people ready to defend their rights.".
This was said by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the BSP Krum Zarkov on the air of the Bulgarian National Radio.
He pointed out that the power is not only in those who have access to the parliamentary rostrum, but it is very often on the side of those who can mobilize society.
„Despite the election loss, we will not be discouraged and there is nothing more to lose, except our chains.“, the socialist said, quoting Karl Marx. He predicted that outside the parliament, the left will overcome an inertia that has gripped it during the very long contact with the government.
„Leaving the parliament, we will not go home, but will go out into the streets. We will make sure that everywhere - from „Positano 20“ to every BSP club in the country, to create the feeling of a common home for the left and social in Bulgaria, in which different people from the wide spectrum of our rich ideology can work and be active. People who work in the field every day and who will be co-founders of a very powerful quality movement. We will begin to solve those issues that do not need to be solved by parliament, without falling behind big politics.“, the BSP chairman also said.
Zarkov expressed confidence that the party will find a way to continue the tradition of the organized socialist movement in a convincing and useful way for the people and this will also bring about the electoral successes of the left. He was categorical that there are a great many socialists who do not know that they are such and many people who need political protection of their rights. “We live in an era dominated by a market-fundamentalist ideology, in which everyone is left to fend for themselves. The BSP must open up to other political formations, civil movements, trade unions and individuals. We must lead all those people who define themselves as leftists into a qualitatively new socialist movement that will be an alternative to the right-wing status quo.“, he urged.
Krum Zarkov pointed out that all other parties in our country are representatives of the same thing that we have had for the last 35 years and stressed that an authentic left will not appear in this parliament. The BSP chairman also commented on the claims of some parties from the 52nd National Assembly that they will protect the left-wing voter and make the left meaningless.
„We do not see how such parties, which adjust to a terrain that seems empty to them, only after they enter the parliament and want to occupy the empty left-wing seats and, as they claim, represent the left-wing voter. The political logic is the opposite, the claim for representation is made before the elections. And we have the experience, the people, the structures, we have representatives in the European Parliament, mayors and municipal councilors, people connected with us in every city and every village, with whom we will fight to represent all left-thinkers.“, he pointed out.
Zarkov recalled that society has seen other parties announcing “right-wing measures for left-wing goals”, but these parties have not fundamentally changed the economic situation - neither in terms of the tax system nor the distribution in favor of big capital.
The party chairman once again reminded that the BSP is a continuation of a tradition that began at the end of the 19th century and today the left is in a state in which it must rethink and transform itself in order to continue this tradition.
“And this mission is noble, feasible and will happen. There is a clear need for this against the unjust system in our country. “, Krum Zarkov was categorical.
