Also called the April Epic of the spring of 1876. , it is the most significant armed manifestation of the national liberation movement for the victory of Bulgaria's independence from the Ottoman Empire, the Uprising broke out prematurely on April 20 in Koprivshtitsa, Euronews Bulgaria recalls.
Although it was unsuccessful, it represented a kind of peak of the Bulgarian national liberation movement. The popular revolt for independence finds a strong echo in Western Europe and Russia. Celebrations are organized every year in the country to mark the memorable date.
