We have an unprecedented campaign – for the first time there is a combination of national and European elections. This is what Boryana Dimitrova, a sociologist from the “Alfa Research” agency, told Euronews Bulgaria.
According to her, the European Commission itself does not recommend having national and European elections at the same time. Because this prevents European topics from being highlighted, society's interest in European issues and including raising awareness.
"It is no secret that, as a rule, national campaigns “shut up“ the European – either with very sharp opposition, compromising wars, blows “below the waist“ or with narrowly national issues.
In all probability, the national theme will dominate over the European one. Which will be a pity, because the Bulgarians have a lot to learn and are already showing more interest in European topics", the sociologist added.
We will see how the European theme will try to sneak “through the eye of a needle” to the national one. One party – whatever she is – there will be one team for the national elections and another that will participate in the Eurolist, Boryana Dimitrova pointed out.
