Taiwan detects missile test launch in China VIDEO - 1

Taiwan's Ministry of Defense last night said it had detected the launch of several salvo missiles in China, days after Beijing said it had successfully fired an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean, the Associated Press reported, cited by BTA.

A statement from the ministry said the missile launches were carried out by the China Missile Forces and the Chinese Armed Forces in Inner Mongolia, as well as Gansu and Qinghai provinces and the Xinjiang region of western China.

Taiwan said it would continuously monitor the situation and that its air defenses would maintain a high level of vigilance and readiness.

China considers the self-governing island of Taiwan to be its province, which must come under its control, if necessary by force, AP said. Taiwan closely monitors China's military activity, and in recent years China has stepped up exercises around the island amid heightened geopolitical tensions.

Last night's live-fire drills come as China said on Wednesday it had fired an intercontinental ballistic missile that landed in a designated area of the Pacific Ocean.

Taiwan condemned the launch and reiterated its opposition to "actions that disrupt peace and stability".
