This week, the parliament is expected to approve the increase in military salaries from next year. The Defense Committee will consider the proposals at second reading. The deputies from the commission will also discuss changes in the contract for the first 8 F-16 fighter jets.
Starting next year, the salaries of military personnel will increase by an average of 30%.
Thus, the military will take as much as those in the Ministry of the Interior, it became clear from the debates in the first reading.
Official Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov pointed out that legally tying the levels of the lowest remuneration to the average salary will make the profession military by – competitive and will motivate the military.
With the changes from January 1 next year, the base salary will be BGN 2,210.
And the deputies attributed the unanimous support in the hall to the fact that “it is time for society to pay more attention to the army”.
Key to the second reading will be the support of some of the measures proposed by the Ministry of Defense to stimulate civilians.
As options for higher monthly salaries for civilian employees, IT specialists in the army, aviation specialists busy with learning the new technique.
The Defense Committee will also discuss a change in the contract for the first F-16s. The decisions are not public, but the Ministry of Justice assures that the changes will not increase the value of the deal.
In 2019, Bulgaria paid a total of about two billion two hundred million BGN.
There will be a change in suppliers of defense products and services, redirection of funds, contract lines.
The changes will not be published in the State Gazette due to confidentiality requirements.
