This is how the military expert and former Minister of Defense Angel Naydenov commented in the Euronews Primetime studio on the exercise announced by Moscow for the use of tactical nuclear weapons. This represents a new level of tension and, accordingly, an escalation of risk, Naydenov believes.
Leaked documents show that there is a fairly low threshold of permissibility for the use of nuclear weapons by the Russian Federation, against Ukraine, or against other countries that would be somehow involved in the conflict.
“This to some extent represents a threat aimed at restraining Western activity and, accordingly, at reducing the determination and volume of military support from the West for Ukraine”, Naydenov explained.
According to him, Russia's threats are paying off.
“Just look at the long debate over sending longer-range missiles. Germany refuses to send the missiles it owns “Taurus” with a range of about 300 or just over 300 km“, noted the military expert.
