44 higher education institutions in our country will not open their doors today in protest even though the government promised to allocated about BGN 92 million in three tranches to increase wages in the sector, reported BNT.
The exams scheduled for today will not be cancelled, the Council of Rectors specified.
In the position of the higher schools, it is said that the protest is not only about higher wages. The goal is real measures, making commitments and their implementation. According to the Council of Rectors, the allocated funds are the first but insufficient step in the right direction. And they expressed readiness for staged protests.
Today's protest will not include the trade unions, who will wait to see if the government will keep its commitment. With the allocated money, the salaries of all those employed in the educational process in higher education institutions will be increased retroactively from the first of January by BGN 290. BGN 200 will be the increase for the non-academic staff. The trade unions stated that they remain in protest readiness for after the elections.
