Leaders of the lists of “We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria” (PP-DB) for the European Parliament elections Nikola Minchev and Daniel Laurer participated today in a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Brussels. Former Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov was among those who spoke to those present.
For us, membership in the EU is one of the greatest achievements in our recent history, Nikola Minchev pointed out. Even forced Sovietization failed to change the European gene of Bulgarian patriotism, he added. According to him, PP-DB will strive for Bulgaria to be “at the core of the EU”.
Nikolay Denkov noted that the most important thing is not the past, but what can be done for the future. He added that there are concrete plans to drop checks at Bulgaria's Schengen land borders after the elections in Austria this year, “as long as there is no negative impact from internal instability” in our country. According to him, if something does not go wrong and a budget with a high deficit is not proposed, there will soon be a positive development for our country's accession to the Eurozone.
The main message is that Bulgaria is and will be in Europe, Denkov told Bulgarian journalists before the start of the meeting, BTA reported. Every day we have to fight for the future of Bulgaria - whether it will be pro-European, whether a dictatorship will not appear - we see such desires and attempts, whether the country will not again be subordinated to a foreign power. We are convinced that the fate of Bulgaria must be decided by the Bulgarians - in Bulgaria and abroad, he added.
