Motor ship RUEN from the composition of Steamship Bulgarian Navy entered MTG for repairs – A dolphin in Varna, reported Maritime.bg.
On December 14, 2023, an armed pirate group boarded the ship. The 18-member crew, consisting of 8 Bulgarian sailors, 9 sailors from Myanmar and one seafarer from Angola, evacuated to a secure room on board. A day later, on December 15, the pirates managed to take control of the ship.
Under the control of the hijackers, the RUEN made a transit to the northern coast of Puntland and later anchored off the eastern coast of Bari province in Somalia. The pirates allowed a medical evacuation of a crew member.
In mid-March and following an operation by the Indian Navy, RUEN was freed from pirate captivity.
A 38-member Somali pirate group was detained during the operation. Pirates are on trial in India.
In mid-April, RUEN crossed the danger zone in the Red Sea off the coast of the military-political organization “Ansar Allah” territories of Yemen. The bulker was escorted by the Italian destroyer of the “Andrea Doria” class.
After visits to Turkish and Romanian ports, today the 2016-built vessel entered MTG – Dolphin for repair.
