Expert: Old elevators cannot guarantee people's safety and must be replaced - 1

Every year In our country, elevators are put into operation, but it turns out that there are no technicians to maintain them. This is shown by the data of the Bulgarian Elevator Association.

The General Secretary of the Association Nikolay Marinkov specified to Bulgaria ON AYR that there are over 1000 new elevators in the country.

"There are technicians for the new elevators. Currently, these are modern facilities that transport many people every day globally. There are technicians who are posted outside Bulgaria, earning 3000-5000 euros per month. Let people think for themselves how much money someone can be attracted to a profession. Users who have lifts must have someone to look after them. We care about the safety of people and their lives," he explained.

In his words, there are enough young people for the new elevators, the industry is adapting and can provide work, while for the old elevators it is logical that there are no technicians.

"Imagine in this day and age a young person being drawn into an elevator that has technology from 50-60 years ago or more. They are no longer produced, they are dangerous and there are no spare parts. They know that the probability of an accident is huge and they can end up in prison later," Marinkov also commented.

The General Secretary of the BAA is adamant that the old elevators cannot guarantee people's safety and must be replaced.

"10-11 years ago, a survey of all panel buildings in Sofia was initiated by the then chief architect of Sofia. Parameters of modern elevators that can be put in the old buildings were developed. The project was not implemented," Marinkov recalled.

There are currently 497 elevator maintenance companies registered in Bulgaria.

"In several cities of Bulgaria there was a crisis because they are only old elevators. There was not a single company that could provide service. If you do not have a contract with a company that is licensed and provides service, the elevator must be stopped from operation by law," Marinkov explained.

The General Secretary of the BAA predicts that with the normal development of the market economy, the work of technicians will be more and more in demand, more paid and more valuable.

"The state is not fulfilling its functions as a controller of our sector", concluded Marinkov.
