The rhetoric, which was started during the election campaign in North Macedonia and continued immediately after the election victory, is still a product of emotions. However, it is visible that North Macedonia is abruptly interrupting its path to European integration and is moving rather in a northern direction – towards rapprochement with Serbia and Serbization of its foreign policy.
This is what former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Milen Keremedchiev said on the air of Euronews Bulgaria.
In his words, North Macedonia will strive for rapprochement with Russia and China rather than integration in the European Union.
During the election campaign “barely” 80% were attacks on Bulgaria, there were still 20% attacks on Greece - the two EU member states, which are the main opponents of the politics of the VMRO-DPMNE party. Mrs. Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, the new president announced that she will no longer sit in front of a sign that says North Macedonia, but will sit behind a sign that says Macedonia.
„There were announcements that they would try to change the Prespa Agreement and the Framework Agreement for membership in the European Union, but Mrs. Siljanovska is a lawyer and should know that terminating signed agreements is a complicated thing. We are not talking about an anti-Bulgarian campaign here, but an anti-European campaign. However, Bulgaria must express a very calm, but at the same time very firm position”, Milen Keremedchiev was categorical.
