The crop of early cherries in Plovdiv has been ruined. The reason is the non-stop rain since the beginning of May, BNT summarized.

National TV warns that resellers are also a problem.

Greek cherries are much more expensive, but there is also a market for them because of the weak Bulgarian harvest.

The Gaidarovi family grows 10 acres of cherries near the village of Belashtitsa. For now, they are harvesting the earliest varieties themselves, because it is very weak, and the fruits are rotting on the trees.

"There wasn't a gram of sun, the sky had fallen over the cherry orchards, the water, the dew, is on the trees on the grass, what we harvested we harvested, the rest is rotting,'' commented Violeta Gaidarova on BNT.

The family sells aloneò the cherries on the stock exchange in Parvenets.

"I sell about BGN 3 per kilogram, BGN 3-4, it depends on the quality, today I even gave BGN 2," said Atanas Gaidarov.

In the village of Brestnik, resellers are at least four places. They refused to stand in front of our camera, but explained that their markup was up to 50 cents per kilo.

The cherries are force-ripened and therefore soft, watery and not sweet. On the other hand, they hold a high price in the markets. The kilogram costs BGN 5.50.

Owners of massifs from the Rhodope collar complain that they have not yet received the funds for direct support from the "Agriculture" fund. This also interferes with harvesting.
